“Pains throw you into the hell and bring you back to heaven again!”
The Chinese title of renaissance of its ashes derives from an ecological term, "climax community," meaning a biological community of plants, animals, and fungi which, through the process of ecological succession in the development of vegetation in an area over time, have reached a steady state.
This is a process of condensing life as well as a ritual of pains. It does not belong to any individual but ambitiously aims to demonstrate all the memories about suerings and pains of all living creatures through the dancers. Therefore, dancers have to bend their bodies to the extreme to interpret the most original memories that inscribe in their bodies -- pains. The work also incorporates an exploration to the origin of Taiwan culture and presents dancers as sacrifices to deities. Like the symbiosis of plants, all living creatures eventually reach a "climax community," a steady state of stillness, silence, and tranquillity.
